| Washington DC, home of one of
the largest Black Gay Pride movements in the country. And
yet another cowardly, hate-filled sermon (and I use that term
VERY loosely) goes forth from one of the pulpits.
Pastor Willie Wilson, a man who in 2000 held a service at
his church to build bridges between gay and straight African-Americans
has revealed his true colors. He has proven that his motives
are disingenuous, and his scholarship is shoddy at best. Judging
from this diatribe of ignorance, anything he's done to mend
the divide in the community was only an attempt to get the
black gay vote when he was running for mayor of the Nation's
Capitol. But then, should we really be surprised when a politician
has been exposed as a liar?
In his sermon "You've Got to Fight to Be Free", Wilson spews
some…well, STUFF that was just unbelievable, ESPECIALLY for
a man who serves as executive director of the Millions More
Movement march. For a man who has seminary training and is
supposedly educated, this stuff is a bit much. He really came
for the children with this one. I'm glad "the children" stood
up and exposed this man to the press. Peep the mess he calls
a sermon. And you KNOW we gon' hafta take this one blow by
violent blow…
" We live in a time when our brothers have been
so put down, can't get a job, lot of the sisters making more
money than brothers. And it's creating problems in families.
That's one of the reasons our families' breaking up. And that's
one of the reasons many of our women are becoming lesbians.
You got to be careful when you say you don't need no man.
I can make it by myself. Well, if you don't need a man, what's
left?"
Now I'll give him that brothers have been put down and some
can't even find jobs. But to say that sisters making more
money than brothers is creating problems in families…that's
crazy.
- What about men not being man enough to stay around to
take care of their kids creating problems in families? ·
What about men beating their wives and cheating creating
problems in families?
- What about the men (or boys in men's clothes) who think
it's better to be a drug dealing thug than a hard working
man creating problems in families?
- What about institutionalized racism and so many brothers
being warehoused in the Criminal Justice System thus making
them ineligible for employment with most companies creating
problems in families?
- What about stupid stuff like this being spewed from pulpits
across the country violently tearing at the fiber of a person's
self-esteem creating problems in families?
I'm sorry, maybe we've been misinformed…it's the LESBIAN'S
fault for applying herself, working hard and qualifying herself
so she CAN make so much money; SHE'S creating problems for
black families. Man get a grip! Let's not use the black woman
as an excuse for the deficiencies of black men. If a brotha'z
manhood is defined by how much money he makes or ANYTHING
outside the man himself, he's in deep trouble no matter how
much money a woman makes. And if a brotha is threatened by
a sister making more money than him, whether she is lesbian
or not, maybe he shouldn't call himself a man in the first
place.
"Lesbianism is about to take over our community.
I'm talking about young girls. My son in high school last
year, trying to go to the prom, he said, 'Dad, I ain't got
nobody to take to the prom because all the girls in my class
are gay. There ain't but two of them straight and both of
them are ugly. I ain't got nobody to take to the prom."
Now he just HAD to demonize lesbians further by making them
unrelenting pedophiles who prey on little girls. And by doing
so, they are taking over our community. Furthermore, they
are doing such a good job at it that his poor son can't get
a date for the prom. Boo-Freakin-Hoo! Maybe his son is just
ugly and ain't got no game. Maybe his son ain't man enough
to step up to a girl and ASK to take her to the prom? It's
common for ignorant boys to call young ladies gay when they
get no play. It's easier to process the rejection that way.
Could THAT possibly be the reason he has no date?
"Now, can I talk here? I ain't homophobic, because
everybody in here got something wrong with him. Whoever you
point at, you can point at your own self. You got something
wrong with your life. But when you get down to this thing,
women falling down on another woman, strapping yourself up
with something, it ain't real. That thing ain't got no feeling
in it. It ain't natural. Any time somebody got to slap some
grease on your behind, and stick something in you, it's something
wrong with that. Your butt ain't made for that. [Audience
shouts and yells its approval in the background.] You got
blood vessels and membranes in your behind. And if you put
something unnatural in there, it breaks them all up. No wonder
your behind is bleeding. It's destroying us. Can't make no
connection with a screw and another screw. The Bible says
God made them male and female. The Hebrew word Negade (?),
which means complimentary nature - there is something unique
to man and unique to woman and it takes those two things to
compliment each other. You can't make a connection with two
screws. It takes a screw and a nut! (shouting)."
Now can I talk here? I'm not even gonna respond to most of
this stuff here because I think it speaks for itself. I WILL
say that I think it odd that a SUPPOSEDLY straight man, who
DOES have a lot of gays and lesbians in his church (how could
he not, the church is in DC), kinda knows a little bit too
much about the mechanics of lesbian and gay sex…doesn't he?
I mean, did he get this information from watching gay porn
(which good Christian people shouldn't be doing ANYWAY)? Or
has he experienced this stuff himself? Furthermore, straight
people have anal and oral sex just as much as gays and lesbians
do. I think I'll leave that argument right there lest I get
in trouble.
The insinuation here is ridiculous. If this man were TRULY
educated he would know that people are gay because of WHO
THEY ARE…not what they do. A person could NEVER have sex in
his or her life and STILL be gay or lesbian. He would know
that homosexuality is present in every aspect of nature itself.
And we could get into the male/female thing, but come on,
haven't we been around that mulberry tree before?
The sad thing about the sermon is, Pastor Wilson has compromised
his integrity. In 2000 he's trying to "mend the divide" between
the gay and straight African-American communities. And now
he's spouting ignorance from the pulpit. His preaching this
sermon is hypocritical and cowardly. His testicular fortitude
is also in question now. This sermon was available for sale
at the church and on the church website. But after he found
out that the media got a hold of it, it's no longer available
for sale at either place.
I think Pastor Wilson should man up. He boldly proclaimed
this mess as a "so-called" man of God. Why cower down and
be unavailable for comment when the Washington Blade exposes
him? Why not make "this gospel message" available for public
consumption? I mean it WAS preached under the anointing of
the Holy Spirit right? If so, what is there to be ashamed
of? Pastor Wilson's actions reek of cowardice, hypocrisy and
ignorance. If "real men" back up their words with their actions,
Pastor Wilson's behavior after the sermon he preached was
exposed also exposes the deficiencies in his manhood as well.
